Volunteering Positions

Position Title

uCare Team

Description 

Umoja Care’ empowers both volunteers and organizers to be an active part of the broader community. You will part of a team that has a hand in all aspects of the branch, from connecting with local organizations for volunteering opportunities to finding creative ways to inspire our Umojis to give back.

Responsibilities 

  • Help with all aspects of uCare program. Specific responsibilities include:
    • Identify volunteering opportunities for Umoja participants – focusing on younger children at the Academy and broader participation in other programs
    • Create and manage relationships with local academies to roll-out centrally planned events (1 event per academy session).
    • Deliver on the uCare initiatives

Description

Position Title

uMentor Team

Description 

Connecting our established professionals with our youth to help them achieve their education and career goals, You will have the opportunity to work on a team and connect with professionals from all over North America, manage the innovative online mentorship platform, and create social media campaigns to maximize participation.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Help with all aspects uMentor program. Specific responsibilities include:

    • Deliver on the uMentor Talkshows and help launch of the Online (Digital) platform
    • Increase penetration of uMentor programs via internal and external network
    • Assist uMentor lead on tasks related to the overall program goals.

Position Title

Umoja Games Team

Description 

Umoja Games, the largest Shia soccer event in the world, brings participants of all ages from around the world together. This role gives you the opportunity to work with a team and go behind the scenes and help in the planning of all aspects of the event, from swag purchases to the vendor selection and media coverage, there is something for everyone.

Responsibilities 

  • Specific responsibilities include:

    • Assist the uGames Lead in developing a detailed plan from planning, execution to wrap-up of Umoja Games 2020.
    • Take ownership of specific tasks within the overall plan.
    • Be an ambassador for Umoja Games 2020 and help promote the event on various available platforms.

Position Title

uAcademy Lead (per location)

Description 

The Academy lead is the local face of Umoja – who has the most impactful role of defining and leading the program to success. The role is multi-disciplinary – requiring a business mindset and managing several aspects of the operations (working with coaches, marketing, negotiating local contracts).

Responsibilities 

    • Work with the soccer director to discuss plans for launch, running, closing ceremony, academy issues, risks, and opportunities to learn from each other and improve participant experience.
    • Ensure the contracts for academy sessions venue is in place for each respective city’s upcoming season.
    • Liaison and contract with the respective city Academy trainers on their schedule and availability, and ensure they are present for each of the sessions.
    • Promote other programs organized by Umoja Outreach Foundation.
    • Highlight (via Social Media, Umoja App) pictures and videos of the program –  bringing awareness to the program.

Position Title

Academy Parent Volunteer

Description 

The Parent Volunteer is a natural conduit for dialogue between parent and trainer, and should serve as first touch point to bring non-soccer related issues or concerns that may arise to the academy lead.

Responsibilities 

  • Help the trainers set-up and clear the equipment on the field before and after the academy session.
  • Assist in the closing ceremonies by coordinating the trophy presentation, and provide snack/drink rotation (recommend advising against snacks with nuts given allergy sensitivities)
  • Parent Volunteer should also try to foster team building whether through seasonal team parties or other sorts of events.

Paid Positions

Position Title

Soccer Development & Experience Lead (Executive Team Member)

Description 

Develop a consistent, repeatable, high-quality academy experience for all cities and the annual Umoja Games tournament.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure existing academies are running smoothly and drive the research and launch of new academy locations – with a target of 2-3 per season.
  • Introduce soccer themes fun activities at Umoja Games to improve participation experience during the tournament.
  • Create a central, online channel for trainers and parents to review the skills for the academy session
  • Schedule a working meeting with academy leads that results in 100% participation among the leads, and then discuss plans for launch, running, closing ceremony, academy issues, risks, and opportunities to learn from each other and improve participant experience.
  • Create a central data source with previous and current academy participants and leverage the data to drive insights and strategy for future growth.
